AMT Model Kits Are Machined Plastic Pieces.

All pieces are machined stamped to a plastic stencil that will need to be separated before assembly. The numbered parts stencil works simply by locating the numbered part that corresponds with the number on the instruction page. We purchased the one above that had 2 in 1. Once the correct piece is located a few simple back and forth motions will separate the part from stencil. You will need the model cement pictured below (Part# FBA_TES3509C) sold separately by Testors. The cement sets up rather quickly (2-3 minutes). It does however have a very strong odor when wet and up close until dry! Our family purchased the exact model and cement and have hours of fun with the product so far!

Accessories For AMT Models.

You can purchase the model tool kit which is sold separately (part# 1990656.00) and is very inexpensive for that item and all that comes with it. This item is NOT a must, but it is much easier to assemble your models with it. We purchased this exact kit and use it on about every piece, so it comes highly recommend from our family. There are other tool kits with different tools, but we found this specific one fit us better and was very user-friendly. There are some extremely sharp items with this kit so adult supervision is highly recommended!

Paint For Models.

Depending on your purchase of model there may be chrome pieces (non-paintable) but most are white and paintable. The model we purchased of the Camaro was a 2 in 1 model and not all come this way. The stock version is all paintable, but street version has some chrome parts. After doing some research and obvious price checking we settled on the paint manufactured by Caliart. It is a multi-purpose craft paint and easily cleaned up if spilled. It is non-toxic and no acid to ruin any varnished surface if spilled. This product package (below) that our family purchased from Amazon came with 24 individual colors that are in a sealable squeeze style bottle. This particular product also came with 12 different size bristle style paint brushes. You can comfortably paint a large surface all the way to a fine pen like line.

Pros: Of All Items.

Our opinion on these 3 exact items our family purchased is this! As far as the model goes, we loved the model itself and did not have any missing parts nor were they broken. It came with all instructions and the box was completely sealed from factory, so we knew it was not a recently returned item. The number stamps were easily read, and all parts were sealed in individual bags. The glue was an easy puncture top and came with extra screw on plastic tapered tops for the smaller parts. Finally, the paint did clean up very quickly and you can use this particular paint an almost any fun activities for kids that includes painting of crafts.

Cons: Of All Items.

In our family’s opinion the AMT model we purchased of the Camaro above being it is a 2 in 1 style the diagrams in the instructions can get a little confusing at times. We noticed instead of having 2 separate diagrams for each build there was only 1 for both styles. It was kind of complicated this way because it was an overlap style diagram that can be easily misinterpreted. I will say however we did not have that same problem with a standard 1 style only model. The tool kit really the only complaint we had was trying to get all the tools back it the plastic case. The case could have been just a little larger because you have to get them put back just the right way for lid to close and snap shut. Finally, the paint, well let’s say its paint so if kids are using it makes sure to put paper down and the lids fully close after each use. We didn’t think about them coming in squeeze bottle vs little glass jars you can dip the brush in. So please keep in mind to order some pain trays or do what we did and save some egg cartons. Egg cartons make wonderful little individual paint cups.

Conclusion.

Finally, from our family to yours I believe overall we would purchase these particular items again without a doubt! We love the fact that all these can be purchased on Amazon and delivered to you without having to go to numerous locations. They have so many models from cars to truck to even 3d models. You can do just one or make a whole collection. The paint worked wonderful even on our son’s pumpkin.
